is a program of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. It is a meaningful way for our church to use more fully our many talents by sharing one another’s burdens and joys.
There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend and a compassionate listener. Stephen Ministry provides a confidential, helping relationship with scheduled regularity. It is Christ caring for people through people.
What Is a Stephen Minister? A Stephen Minister is…
- A child of God who walks beside a hurting person
- A caring Christian friend who really listens
- A member of our congregation who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care
- A person who is ready to focus on your needs
- A trustworthy confidant who will keep everything you say—and even your identity—confidential, and
- Someone who will faithfully meet with you on a weekly basis for as long as your need persists
A Stephen Minister is NOT…
- A counselor or therapist
- A problem-solver
- Someone who runs errands or helps with chores, or/li>
- A casual visitor
Our Stephen Ministers are ready to provide you with the confidential, one-to-one Christian care you need to make it through a crisis or to help you through a difficult time.
In his confessional document The Smalcald Articles, Martin Luther includes “the mutual conversation and consolation of the brethren” as a means of grace, along with God’s Holy Word and the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
If you or someone you know would benefit from having someone who would listen and care and walk with you during a difficult time… or If you would like more information about being a Stephen Minister… then contact Pastor Cynthia.
